First Work Computer

VisiCalc was a real game-changer to those who came across it in 1979. Used with an Apple II, it opened up a whole new World in terms of eliminating repetitive tasks, such as working out carry rates. It was the the precursor to Lotus 123 (1983), Quattro Pro – first widely used spreadsheet with tabs (1989) and of course the now ubiquitous Excel.

Dealerboards have obviously evolved far beyond the types used in the ’70’s, the most popular of which were the Key-and-lamp boards widely used in UK dealing rooms. “Up” was off, “Middle” was on hold, and down was “Speak”. So simple even I could use one.

Bandwidth for me started off as a 1200 Baud modem, and has progressed gradually over the years, with a real boost in the last few years.
